Best Camera For I Want Clips
As a clip producer you'll need to have something to film with. I am going to list a few cameras and solutions that I recommend for clip makers with various budgets in mind. I will also include my personal recommendations and what I personally use. If you're starting out with a smaller budget you may prefer using your current phone or a webcam. DSLR and mirrorless cameras with an interchangeable lens are more ideal if you have the budget for it.
Most Affordable Webcam For IWantClips & Fetish Clips - Logitech C922
Using a simple webcam like the Logitech C922 to record clips is perfectly fine if you just want to dip in the waters. You don't need to invest in super expensive equipment to start with, plus you'll be able to use the same webcam for camming. I filmed my first clips using a C920 Logitech webcam and it still sold a decent number of copies. Even though I currently film with a much higher quality DSLR camera, many still buy my old ones with lower quality. I simply used a USB mic (check out this affordable one from Fifine or the more premium BlueYeti) and used the camera app on my windows camera to film.
The Logitech Brio is also a good choice if you want very clear video and willing to spend more.
Best DSLR For IWantClips - Canon 80D & 90D
A Canon 90D or more affordable 80D DSLR camera is one of the best options in my opinion, for IWantClips if you don't mind it being heavier. The camera I currently shoot with is a Canon 80D and one of the main reasons why I chose it over a mirrorless is due to the fact that battery life is better compared to the Canon M series. I didn't go with a lighter mirrorless option as I only bought my camera to use at home. If you want to use your camera outdoors or carry it with you, you may want to consider a mirrorless option instead.
There is a little bit of a learning curve as you'll need to set ISO and aperture manually for best results but the depth of field you'll get with this is superior compared to a camcorder. You'll want to invest in a sturdy tripod like this Manfretto as the camera is on the heavier side.
The 80d is more affordable as it's the older version but still viable. One of the differences between the 90D and 80D is that the 90D has 4k shooting capabilities.
Best Camera Lens For IWantClips - Sigma 18-35 MM
The Sigma 18-35 mm lens is my favorite choice for shooting clips on IWantClips and this is the only lens that I currently use. It offers amazing depth of field and can be adjusted to zoom in or out manually. Cons are that the lens is very loud when it autofocuses so you will need to place your mic on a boom stand. You simply won't be able to put your mic on the camera using this lens as it makes too much noise. However, having the mic on a boom is always a better option for sound quality. This lens is also very heavy.
Best Mirrorless Camera For IWantClips - Canon EOS M50
The Canon EOS M50 is an excellent choice if you find DSLR's too bulky and want something a bit more streamlined. It is an interchangeable lens camera which will allow you to use various lenses. Note that if you want to use any Canon M-series camera with Canon's EF and EF-s lenses you'll need to get a lens adapter.
Best Phone Camera For IWantClips - IPhone 12 Pro Max
Today's phones have come along way and the newer Iphones such as the iPhone 12 Pro Max are perfectly fine for shooting clips. Personally I prefer using a camera but if you want to use a phone, I would recommend using a newer Iphone, Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phone. All three are top contenders when it comes to shooting video.
Best External Microphone For Fetish Clips - Rode NTG
Using an external cardioid mic is key as on-board audio tends to be terrible. A cardioid mic is also very useful for blocking out noises that are not right in front of the mic (such as cars driving by).
I have both the more affordable Rode VideoMicro as well as the pricier Rode NTG. Both are of great quality. The Rode Videomicro is excellent at minimizing external noise. The major con of the Rode VideoMicro is that it does not have an adjustable gain.
The Rode NTG offers more features including an adjustable gain and high pass filters to minimize surrounding noise. It offers a very low noise floor (that annoying, hissing "white noise") which is a lot more prevalent on the VideoMicro plus it has a superior build quality. However, I honestly found the cheaper VideoMicro more effective at blocking out noises like the hum of a fridge.
I personally wouldn't use the VideomicPro+ as it uses external batteries and needs to be turned on (you can forget to turn on the audio and end up with a clip without audio). The Rode VideoMicro is a good choice if you are on a budget whereas the NTG is more versatile.
Note that to get the best audio quality possible, you'll need to get a boom stand, boom stand adapter (to screw the mic on) and an OEM Rode extension cord. Even the most expensive mic will sound subpar mounted on a camera vs mounted on stand as close to your mouth as possible (ideally pointed downwards towards your mouth).
